Interactive Personalization Services in Korea

Posted by Channy Yun

Was not failed personalization? It’s in fashion interactive personalization services with Ajax and RSS feeds. In past, the portal based personalization was closed and aggregated informations in portal. But, a new thing is opened. There are many kinds of services such as Netvibes, Google Ig, MSN Live (aka, Start.com) and My Yahoo!.

Yozmn is a personalization home page that can be added and mixed of various contents such as news, audio, video and search from RSS feeds. Yozmn means “right now” or “nowadays” in Korean. A front page can be resized and reordered each item by Ajax functions. It gives personal home such as userid.yozmn.com that offers public RSS reader and personalization.

The other is Starton that offers similar functions of existing personalization services. But, Starton uses flash (or Flex) techniques to handle personal items. So it’s very stable and interactive rather than Ajax based services. There are various personalization functions: sharing photo, customization of search engines, RSS feeding, whether forecasting, custom portal headline news.

A user can make a custom functional pages as like Allblog Starton, Naver Starton and Engineer starton that can add custom search engines for software engineers.

First tryout of portal site is My Nate. Recently Yahoo! Korea changed Ajax based front page as like Yahoo! US.
