News 2.0, a social news site
But, it only allows for people over 15 years old to register in it and summit a news and write a comment to keep the level of conversation between users. News2.0 does not want to cover provocative contents at all. As like other social news websites, news stories and web links are submitted by users, and then promoted to the front page through a user-based ranking system.
In Korea, it has been delivered full news articles of most of traditional media companies to internet portal sites such as Naver, Daum and Yahoo! Korea. They have been only content providers to sell news contents. As a result, internet users consume all of news in portal site not media web sites. So portal sites such as Naver News and Media Daum have a strong power to make the trend of public opinion. But, they have similar system with existing newspaper because of owning editorial rights in the website.
On the contrary, News 2.0 aim at democratic editorial system by user’s preference and popularity in terms of collective intelligence or wisdom of crowd. The degree of participation in portal news site is very excellent by korean internet users. Some articles even have over 3,000 comments. So News 2.0 will become an experimental news platform against portal based news mechanism.
