Ray Ozzie, Coming out Windows in Mix07

Posted by Channy Yun

Today 72 hours conversations was started between Microsoft and Web in Las Vegas. Ray Ozzie, a keynote speaker of Mix07 turned over all of his best cards of “service softwares for user experience” to be prepared. I saw all of keynote and demonstrations via 500kb live streaming in my home in Korea, and felt fresh changes of Microsoft again after Microsoft Tech Summit in the last month.

The most remarkable thing is that you could see both Windows and Mac OS X as well Firefox and Safari in almost of demonstrations. It seems that Microsoft Silverlight 1.0 Beta was very lightweight and impressive for all of attendees, especially 1.1 alpha was shocked because of .net framework on Mac OS. Indeed it was coming out.

Surprisingly it was released all of development softwares in Microsoft Expression Studio. I didn’t expect that thing because I saw only Microsoft Expression Blend to make Silverlight(XAML) application in MTS07. It was all of line-up of softwares in the runtime engine, design tool, development tool and cross platform debugging tools. In starting point, friendly forces are together with Microsoft Silverlight such as CBS HDTV, Netflex and NBL.com.

These efforts are concluded in Sliverlight Streaming for hosting Sliverlight applications by web designers and developers. The 4GB storages and global network bandwidths are free.

There is another special news for .net developers. You can make a code with more dynamic languages such as Python, JavaScript, Dynamic VB and Ruby as well C#. Also it goes to Firefox, Safari and Opera both Windows and Mac OS. Indeed Microsoft was coming out Windows toward universal web with experience software.

I think it was very great, but it’s very similar era of competition between NSPlugin and ActiveX even Flash. The universal web must be readable and hackable. Choice is good, but the accessible value of web is also important.

Whereas Tim O’reilly talked with Bill Gates in Mix06, Ray Ozzie did with Michael Arrington of Techcrunch. Michael’s voice shook with excitement, but he gave some of good questions. Especially he indicated there was no progression after release of Office Live, Ray may hesitate to talk about that thing a little.

I worried that Ray might get his position in Microsoft when he presented incoherent things of Universal RSS extensions API with Firefox in last year MIX06. But, now he is strong with tragic mind to construct “the platform of platforms” to lay the foundation of Web in this year. (It seems his leadership is concrete in Redmond.)

He expressed self-confidence by saying “I’m not Bill Gates. I”m who I am.” Right, We’ll able to see the result in 3 years after. Good luck, Ray!

Hi, I found this blog post while looking for help with fixing Microsoft Silverlight. I have recently changed internet browser from Chrome to IE. Just recently I seem to have a issue with loading websites that use Microsoft Silverlight. Everytime I browse site that requires Microsoft Silverlight, the site doesn’t load and I get a “npctrl.dll” error. I can’t seem to find out how to fix it. Any help getting Microsoft Silverlight to work is very appreciated! Thanks
