Tistory starts closed beta services. It is blog hosting services with strategic partnership between Tattertools, a famous blog software written PHP and Daum Comminications, the largest internet portal in Korea. It’s similar with MovableType on Yahoo! Web Hosting. Yahoo! also offers hosting service of WordPress. But, there is a different thing compared with Yahoo!. Tistory is free for all bloggers and offers unlimited storage for photo and video. (But, it limits 100 MB video size in time to upload it. If you upload mpeg file, there is no limit to below 100MB size.)

So Tistory resembles a free blog service, WordPress.com. Tattertools only rents good infrastructure of Internet portal. Many bloggers surprised this news and want to get invitation for beta services. Invited users can do each five other people. It’s interesting that many bloggers beg invitation as like early Gmail beta service.

Why Daum offers a free blog service although it has own blog service? Daum has focused on a strategy of User-created Content. They have 2 billion user generated content from Daum Cafe and Media Daum, a news service matched comments and forum system by users. So it is a good choice to get passionate bloggers for them.

Most of korean bloggers belong to portal site such as Naver, Daum, Yahoo! and Empas. But, passionate bloggers belong to Egloos and own blog softwares with Tattertools, WordPress. They want to build and decorates own blog with theme and plugin of blog softwares. But, most of hosting company are unstable and expensive rather than portal service. So it’s very good news for them

Anyway, the GPL version of Tattertools are getting more famous blogging software in Korea. Many companies start to use Tattertools as blogging tool of members including Ohmynews Blog, The UBlog of European mobile blog made by Samsung Electronics.
