The widget became the new battle field to occupy priority between Internet and desktop. Two commonly referred to type of widgets are the Yahoo! Widgets and the Dashboard widgets of Apple Macintosh. Microsoft refers to them as Gadgets both in Windows Vista and the Windows Live system. And Google has given APIs to make gadgets in Google Desktop.
Most widgets can be created with a few images and from less than ten to several hundred lines of XML/CSS/JavaScript. The widget engine will offer desktop application platform to connect with Internet services over desk accessories.
In Korea, there are many widget providers too. The Naver Desktop is very similar with Yahoo! widgets. It offers custom widgets that already were made by Naver. It includes desk accessories such as clock, timer, weather and simple web things such as web search, dictionary and alert to show new e-mail, blog comments.

Naver also offers various desktop application against Google’s invasions. There are Photo Manager (Picasa), Toolbar (Google Toolbar) and My PC Search (Google Desktop Search).
Another competitor, Daum also has a lined-up similar products. The Widget Bar is almost same with Naver’s and Yahoo’s. Especially, it contains various funny game widgets.

In desktop products, Daum Multikit offers functions editing videos and images as well as managing multimedia files. You can make your own video contents to cut, copy and mix audio and video sources.

Another widget providers are Miniple and Daltong stylish desktop. The Miniple has three elements, Getple to use content and information, Netple to organize personal schedule and desktop accessories and Chatple to focus on communications. All of applications are classified by these.

The Daltong offers more graphical widgets rather than others. For example, as following images are one of trash widgets. It added artwork to simple functions.

Korean widget services are closed not to offer APIs. So 3rt party developers cannot make a own widgets. Most of them are made by closed platforms of Win32 and flash engine. It’s the different point compared with abroad widget services.
